A Carers Story

My situation is slightly different but at the same time very similar. I am the Carer for my Father, an ex-business man who for all his adult life has been a very heavy drinker ,now defined by the system as” alcohol dependant”. It’s heart breaking to see a man who at one time could “charm” the ladies, to be reduced to skin and bone, a body ravaged by the destructive qualities of years of alcohol abuse.

PINS number was given to me by a friend and at first I was slightly reluctant, the thinking behind my anticipation being, it was family and we could handle it ourselves. For some reason and to be honest I’m not sure that I can remember why myself? but I decided to give them a call and see what was what. It turned out to be one of the most important, yet fortuitous calls I ever made.

I was able to see someone very quickly and they handled our meeting with such professionalism and care I was immediately impressed. I was able to discuss me and my issues with Dads abuse which I had never before been able to do. I spent years taking my Father round to G.P. surgery’s and alcohol services but nowhere was I offered any help. My weekly sessions became so important to me and I understand more now, even why Mum left after years of living with him and his drinking. My relationship with my Mum became so much better, we speak regularly these days.

So much happened as a result of making that first phone call, I cannot thank PINS enough and would say to anyone in my position, make that call because you certainly won’t regret it.

Thank you so much everyone at PINS
